MXS Daytona Track Analysis

DAYTONA, FL- The tenth round of the 2012 MX Simulator MotoOption Supercross Series presented by Vurbmoto is at the famed Daytona International Speedway this week where the riders are greeted with the roughest track they will see all year. Run on the infield of the tri-oval, the track is one of a kind and also one of the longest of the year.

So we will start off this week’s analysis no differently than other weeks and I will put in my two cents about the track. Here we go!

Osari’s Lap Analysis:

A very short start that runs from the pit lane out towards the actual Nascar track makes a left turn up and over the landing of the finish line jump. I click into third gear coming down the landing and hit the large set of whoops wide open. The whoops are huge and I feel as though there will be a lot of pileups in the whoops on the first lap, so it may be very crucial to start up front.

Out of the whoops there’s a 180 U-turn to the left with a small berm on the inside or the usual berm on the outside. A small rough straight away goes right into another 180 degree right hander with the same set up in the corner as the one after the whoops.

A strange little split with a small double on either side leads into a big triple that pitches you quite high and upon landing it’s hard on the gas as there is an elongated dragons back double into a long left handed U-turn. Speed in the corner will be crucial as you are greeted with a large rhythm section where the preferred line is to triple-triple-double. Some riders double-triple-triple but it’s only competitive with the other line if you cut the corner tight before hand.

A little kink left after the rhythm section goes right into a fairly long double before another kink to the right back across the start straight. A set of five jumps goes up and down with the tallest jump peaking in the middle. It seems like everyone launches it and treats the last two bumps as whoops before hitting another 180 bowl turn to the right. The corner has a small berm on the inside but it’s hard to hit if you launch the jumps coming into the corner.

A small bumpy straight comes into another long sweeping left hand corner. A long flat double launches down the straight but you have to get heavy on the binders to pop over a wall in the middle of the straight. After that it’s back on the gas over a set of moguls leading into yet another 180 left handed bowl turn. A tricky section of small offset jumps that is easiest to sort of triple-double over goes right into a triple-triple section that is somewhat big.

For the last time on the lap, there is another turn with a small berm on the inside, which I actually prefer to hit and is the only one during the entire lap in which I do so. A small rough straight ends with a roller into the last corner on the track which is a 180 left.

The last straight away is a small on-off into the second Supercross triple on the track and a small rough patch brings you across the MotoOption finish line where you can lay it over for the crowd.

A tricky track indeed with my best lap thusfar being a 1:27. I could possibly improve my lap time and race this week but I don’t think I REALLY want to (laughs). How about you guys tell me if I should race or not, what do you think?

Lites Lap Analysis:

A rough week last week for System Decal’s Justin653 as he struggled in his heat and did not race the LCQ. As he looks to turn it around this week, I asked him for some analysis on the track this week and this is what he had to say:

“For this week Daytona you kind of get that outdoors feeling you know almost like a lil’ taste of outdoors in a few months, tracks always gnarly. But for sure this week just keeping it simple and trying to stay on two wheels,” says Justin.

“As for line choice I’m just doing the basics here and there although in the section after the wall, in those singles, I’ve been trying to jump all the way over them so we will see where that goes. Lap times i hit low 1:18’s and have dipped into the 17’s twice. I think by Thursday 250fs could possibly be in the 1:16’s. We’ll see,” says Justin.

The Lites racing should be interesting after the serious championship shake up last round. Could we see the fourth different winner on the season? This journalist thinks so.

450 Lap Analysis:

For this weeks 450 lap analysis I got in touch with AEO Powersports’ Motox161. Kind of funny because I was apologizing to him for getting in his way while he was lapping me on 02 Monday night. Everything was cool and I asked him for some feedback on the track and here’s what he had to say.

“The fastest line in the first rhythm section seems to be triple-triple-and launch out of the double. After that section and the following double, I think triple-double seems to be pretty quick as well. The rough section was weird at first, but there’s a smooth line right down the middle. After that section you need to hit the first five small jumps pretty smoothly in order to triple-triple at the end. So far I’ve ran a 1:17, and only see a slight improvement on that before the race. I’m sure some guys will make it into the 1:13’s on a gnarly hot lap,” said Motox161.

Daytona will definitely prove to be an interesting change of pace and could be just the opportunity several riders need to make up points in the championship.
